Seek out Where Dust Hides

Most dust comes from tiny bits of dead skin and fabric fibers. It also contains dirt, pollen, and other contaminants. The dust in many Lakewood Ranch, Florida, homes carries dust mites as well, and allergies to these organisms or other contaminants in dust can cause headaches, skin rashes, sinus problems, and other symptoms. Seek out where allergens hides in closets, beds, and air filters to avoid these problems and enjoy a cleaner, more comfortable home.

Closets

Your closets could be full of tiny fibers from your towels and clothing. These are the same materials that create lint when you do your laundry. Wearing clothes after they’ve been sitting in a closet for a while can make allergy symptoms worse. Use garment bags and plastic containers to store clothing you don’t wear at least every few months and don’t forget to vacuum and dust inside your closet.

Beds

The blankets and sheets on your bed are big dust collectors, so you should change them every week for better sleep. If your pillows or blankets aren’t washable, take them outside and shake them. You should also use a mattress protector to keep allergens and bacteria away from your mattress.

Air Filters

Your HVAC system’s air filter is made to collect any dust in your ductwork and keep it from spreading to your home. If you don’t change your air filter regularly, it will get too dusty to work well and that dust will get to all your rooms. A dusty, dirty air filter can also block your heating or cooling system’s airflow, raising your utility bills. Change your air filter once per month to prevent these problems.
